Advice for Coeliacs

Tilquhillie’s Safe Oats for Coeliacs

Tilquhillie’s Oats are 100% Pure and tested by the latest Elisa tests for any possible gluten contamination.

The protein in 100% Pure Oats is called Avenin and does not contain the amino acid sequences which are the immune trigger for coeliac disease.

Most commercial oats and oat products are contaminated by other cereal grains and one rogue grain in two thousand is enough to cause a significant reaction. Contamination by wheat, rye or barley can occur at several stages, during growth, harvesting and transport as well as during milling and further food processing. It is very important in a cereal like oats which may be consumed as daily porridge or muesli  that the gluten content be undetectable.

The single old variety of oat we use produces lower yields but has a wonderful creamy taste and seems to be kind to sensitive digestive systems. Although grown on the family farm, most of our oats are gown and milled in Northern Scandinavia. The farms have to have a period of fallow and weed treatment to ensure no other grain remains on the land

Before cultivation. Dedicated contract machinery cultivates, drills and harvests the oats, and transports it to a dedicated mill. The oats is then tested for any possible contamination. Once in the dedicated farm bakery the oats is packed, and manufactured in to muesli’s, sponge puddings, cakes etc and then re-tested by Elisa test for any possible contamination, before being sent out to you.

Safe Oats give Coeliac consumers and those requiring a wheat free diet, the opportunity to include a high quality carbohydrate in their diet.
